The Bharatiya Janata Party mayoral candidate for Dehradun, Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ filed his nomination on Monday. Earlier, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and various BJP leaders including former mayor and MLA Vinod Chamoli accompanied Gama in the procession from the BJP city office near Parade Ground to the site of nomination in MCD. The presence of the CM in the procession is being viewed as a sign of his direct backing to the mayoral candidate.
Apart from the BJP candidate, the AAP candidate Rajni Rawat also took out a procession from the Parade Ground to the MCD and filed her nomination for the election to the mayoral post.
Earlier, she appealed the people to give her a chance after already having seen the administration of both the BJP and Congress. Observers opine that both the BJP and Congress mayoral candidates mustered crowds to accompany them in their procession to the MCD for filing of the nomination though this cannot be viewed as a sign of their electoral strength. The Congress mayoral candidate Dinesh Agarwal is slated to file his nomination on Tuesday.
