Bhatt pulls up Govt over inaction in escort mishap

Alleging total collapse of law and order in Uttarakhand, leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Bhatt on Saturday said police had not been able to track down the driver who was responsible for a collision with one of the escort vehicles in his convoy. “It is nine days since my police escort vehicle was hit by a truck while I was on my way from Nainital to Dehradun on May 14 but the police are yet to trace either the truck driver or the truck involved in the accident.

It would be pertinent to mention here that Bhatt escaped unhurt after a truck collided with the escort jeep of his car late on May 14 while he was returning from Nainital to Dehradun. The accident occurred at Chhidiyapur under Shyampur police station of the district. One escort employee and one police constable were injured. They were rushed to Jolly Grant Hospital in Dehradun.

“Strange that none of the representatives of the district administration or State Government have called or met the driver of my escort vehicle Ganesh Thapa, who sustained serious injuries in the collision and is battling for life at a city hospital, so far.” Bhatt alleged. Citing a document provided by the hospital the BJP leader said an estimated Rs 3 lakh would have to spend for the treatment of Thapa whose condition remained critical.

The estimate of expense provided by the hospital has been forwarded to the State Government, he said, adding it was highly insensitive on its part not to send a representative to the hospital to enquire after Thapa. Bhatt had a narrow escape when a speeding truck hit his police escort jeep near Haridwar on the night of May 14. The driver of the escort vehicle was injured in the accident. The veteran leader also wondered how the truck driver could flee the scene of the accident along with his damaged vehicle in a jiffy despite the fact that there was a long traffic snarl on the route.

Bhatt also said despite more than a month since the security breach at the prestigious lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy, Mussoorie, the ongoing investigations had not moved even an inch further. Even Police has asked the state government to refer the case to the CBI but state turned down their request. It means police had realized that there is some hanky panky in it and they would not be able to dig out the truth due to some compulsion. Despite all this state government turn down their appeal and asked police to crack this case as soon as possible. Meanwhile Ruby got bail from court and after few months the case will be suppressed by the authority because state does not want to get into the details.

“The Time consuming probe in such a sensitive case indicates that it is being taken casually by the state It seems that things have gone out of the state government’s grip and the law and order machinery has collapsed in the state,” Bhatt added. Meanwhile Chief Minister Harish Rawat informed that the State Government had instructed Haridwar DM and SSP to investigate the case.
