BARC to facilitate tech transfer in State

Vinod Chamoli

For the first time in Uttarakhand, the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) will facilitate  technology transfer for rural development and making the youth self-reliant. The BARC scientists are making preparations for technology transfer to be facilitated with the development of a nodal centre in the Swami Ram Tirtha (SRT) Badshahithaul campus of Garhwal Central University. A team from BARC visited the SRT campus at Badshahithaul to seek various information on the subject. The visiting team members stated that the SRT campus meets most of the standards for setting up of a nodal centre.

Various technologies developed at BARC are now expected to achieve development in electricity generation and boosting the economy in the social sector. In the first stage, training will be provided on techniques related to water, agriculture, food resources, garbage and solar energy in the proposed nodal centre. This is expected to mitigate the problem of migration from the mountainous regions and enable the trainees to set up mini-industrial enterprises. The BARC on its part will also issue a license procedurally for the making of such products. In the second stage, members of the general public visiting the nodal centre will be provided training for tasks like potable water testing, soil testing, biogas from garbage and operation of dryer powered by solar energy.
