Badrinath temple to reopen on May 11

PNS

The Badrinath temple will be reopened to the public at dawn on May 11. The date for reopening of the shrine was declared after consideration of astrological calculations based on the traditional almanac on the occasion of Vasant Panchami as per tradition on Friday.

The Purohit of the erstwhile royal family of Tehri at Narendranagar made the announcement in the presence of Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee position-holders, members of the traditionally involved religious fraternity and Tehri MP Mala Rajya lakshmi Shah, among others. The traditional rituals were held on Friday for ascertaining the suitable and auspicious date for reopening the temple of lord Badrinath.

The temple will be reopened to the public at 4:30 am on May 11 and the traditional ritual practices associated with reopening of the shrine - bringing the Gadu Ghada containing the sesame oil used in the shrine - will begin earlier in April.

Apart from this, the shrines of Gangotri and Yamunotri will be reopened to the public on May 9.
