In view of increasing ATM and Bank fraud cases and other cyber crime cases through various social networking sites, officers of the cyber crime police station educated the people about ATM and Bank frauds and precautions to be observed while visiting ATM and banks in an awareness programme held at Kalsi Block on Saturday. People were also informed about what they would take precautions while visiting various social networking sites.

Cyber Crime Police Station in-charge SSP P Renuka Devi said Bank/ATM fraud cases are on the rise.

Such awareness programme would help in checking such crimes. Moreover, with the advancement of technology and increase in its accessibility, large numbers of people are using social networking sites and sometimes they indulge in wrongdoing using the technology knowingly or unknowingly. Statistics revealed that large numbers of youths are involved in missing social networking sites frequently.

Cyber Crime Police Station in-charge inspector Ashok Kumar Tyagi and inspector Bharat Singh informed the people about Bank/ATM frauds while sub-inspector Vinod Chaurasiya told the people about social networking sites like facebook, what’s app and others during the programme.

Bharat Singh told the people to use ATM card cautiously. “You should not inform anyone about your secret password. At ATM room, strangers should not be given for withdrawing your money. You should change your secret password from time to time. If your cash was withdrawn by anyone, you should inform cyber crime police station promptly,” he said.

Chaurasiya talked about social media in details. He highlighted about what are precaution people to take while using social networking sites. They should not provide mobile phone number, email id, photo, identity card and other important information. “Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to using social media like Facebook and Whats App. If you act on your impulses being unaware of the provisions of IT Act you are likely to land in trouble. Upload anything you would not want everyone to see, assuming that it would remain generally unseen and you are likely to be in trouble. He said that the youths using social media on internet must know dos and don’ts. “One should use a strong password. Use privacy settings and insist your friends use them too. Never leave anything but the bare minimum as publically available. Make sure that only your accepted friends or followers can see what you put up. Even then leaks, hacks and privacy policy revisions are not unheard of,” he added.
