Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), North India Section (NIS), which is one of the five sections of SAE-INDIA affiliated to SAE International, USA organises a student convention every year in Delhi/NCR region where the focus is on strong Industry – Academia interface to explore the innovative ideas and creativity levels amongst the young student professionals, organised students’ convention in University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES).
It was the first time in the history of SAE–NIS had been chosen outside the NCR to hold a student convention. More than 350 students from nine professional Colleges and Universities registered themselves for this convention, these included DIT University, Graphic Era University, IIT Roorkee, GRD Institute of Management & Technology, JB Institute of Technology & Management., Doon College of Engineering, College of Engineering – Roorkee , College of Technology - Pant Nagar apart from UPES. Competition amongst these nine Collegiate clubs was held across three broad Topics, first being the Car Design Competition, followed by Collegiate Club presentations and Technical paper presentation in three categories viz. Engine Research, Automotive Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The panel of jury for the three competitions included DN Dave-Vice President: Body Design of Maruti Suzuki India ltd, Paul Damle - Design Technologist, Dehradun, Prof. Atul Kedia- Program Director, Design Programs at UPES, and Prof Jagpreet Singh –SoDS at UPES Jaspreet singh of MSIl, Prof. Rl Mendiratta from GEU, Prof Amneesh Singla from UPES, Prof Yashvir Singh from UPES, Aditya Nanda from MSIl, Prof R Rajan from DITU, Prof Nitin from UPES, Prof Rajanish Garg from UPES, Prof. AKTyagi from UPES and Prof Nataraj Mishra from UPES.
Convention was inaugurated by Dr SJ Chopra, Chancellor, UPES in presence of DN Dave- Vice-President: Body Design of MSIl and Vice- Chair: Membership SAE NIS, Mr. Deepak Sawkar- Vice-President: Tech. Admin. of MSIl & Vice- Chair: Student Activities SAE NIS, Anup Kacker, Executive Director SAE NIS, Prof. Phillipe Deviant and Prof. Pascal Higelin of University of Orleans, France, Dr. Shrihari, Campus Director-UPES, Dr. Kamal Bansal, Director-CoES,UPES and various departmental heads.
