For the first time, the auditions of Zee TV  sponsored  Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Suron Ka Mahamanch were held in Dehradun on Tuesday where thousands of aspiring singers participated. The auditions meant to hunt  singing talents were held at St. Anne’s , Nehru Colony, Dehradun. The show gained instant popularity since it  was the first singing talent hunt show on Indian television.

Eminent  singers Kunal Pandit, Nidhi Tomar and Mangal Mishra were present during the auditions as judges. Registration being  free, thousands thronged the venue to give the auditions.  There were many who were from the unprivileged sections of the society. They came in their droves  to avail the opportunity of showcasing their musical talents.

The contestants said they would go through two rounds of musical presentation. They were found waiting for hours for their turns to come. Many were disappointed as they were not selected while those who were selected for the third round went home with beaming faces. Around 10 contestants were selected from Dehradun for the third round.

Rahul Gurung who, an accountant in a private firm, has formed his own band ‘Auchitya’ said the audition was good as he was selected for the second round on the basis of contemporary music. “This is a great opportunity for the music lovers as well as for those who want to pursue their career in music,” he said.

“I live in a small village near Haridwar and came to Dehradun for the audition. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity,” said Anmol Kumar who was also selected for the second round.

Akshay Gurung, a student, said he could play  guitar aside from   singing. “I would give my cent percent if I am selected  for the further rounds,” he added.

“The level of the competition being quite high, judges are looking for the finest voices. I was not selected for the second round. It made me sad. However,  it proved to be a great experience for me. It would stand me in good stead in the coming days. It has given me confidence,” said Arjita Dhyani, a student.
