PNS

In protest against illegal plying of contract carriage vehicles like Vikrams, the association of city buses of Dehradun has decided to stop operation of city buses from July 17.

The association on first day of its agitation would halt operation of city buses on Premnagar- Parade ground- Palwal route in state capital. later the buses of other routes would join the strike. The President of the association Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal said that under the patronage of officers of transport department and police the illegal Vikrams are openly operating on the roads of the city.

He said that the agitation would continue till the administration and transport department respect the order of Uttarakhand High Court and stop illegal movement of Vikrams in the city especially around clock tower area.

The Federation is of the view that contract carriage vehicles like Vikrams are illegally plying in spite of the fact that the Uttarakhand High Court in an order dated May 27, 2014 had clearly stated that the contract carriage vehicles like  Vikrams should be stopped from picking retail customers on selected routes. The association alleges that the financial condition of the bus operators has taken a plunge and many of them are not in a position to repay loans and meet the requirement of their family.
