The arrival of vegetables from other states has reduced to about 50 per cent at present in Dehradun. The president of Dehradun Mandi Samiti, Rajesh Sharma stated that earlier, the supply of about 20,000 quintal vegetables used to arrive here every day from other districts and States but now the supply is limited to only about 10,000 quintals daily.

He said that it is also one of the reasons that the price of some vegetables rose rapidly. On the question of the rise in price of tomatoes in the city, Sharma said that in the current time of year, the season of tomatoes ends in other states but it starts in our mountainous regions like Uttarkashi but this time, due to the lack of labourers in these areas, the tomatoes could not be supplied in Dehradun. “There are not sufficient labourers in these areas due to the current Covid-19 crisis.

Therefore, we have sent some of our wholesalers in these areas to make a temporary collecting centre from where the tomatoes can be supplied easily.”

Sharma further informed that the Samiti will make these arrangements of collecting tomatoes from mountainous regions on a regular basis till the situation gets better in the State. He assured that the price of tomatoes will return to normal in a couple of days in the city.
