With a rising incidence of thefts in the State Capital, the local businessmen raised their security concern and alleged that the police control room (toll-free number 100) officials do not respond to emergency calls. Additional Director-General of Police (law and order) Anil Kumar Raturi interacted with the agitated traders in the presence of the IG/DIG Sanjay Gunjyal, DIG/SSP Pushpak Jyoti, SP City Ajay Singh and other police officers at the police line in Dehradun and assured them of all possible steps to ensure their adequate security.
ADGP Raturi appealed to the traders to install high density CCTV cameras in their shops. Apart from this, they should appoint gunmen in their shops. IG Gunjyal said that the police are going to make it mandatory for the shopkeepers to install high density CCTV cameras in their shops under police act and action will be taken if they fail to install the same.
The traders expressed disappointment over increasing crimes in the state capital over the past few weeks and sought police patrolling in the market area to instill fear in the offenders. Some shopkeepers said that often police do not act swiftly after being informed about the theft incidents.
SSP Pushpak Jyoti directed the shopkeepers to complete the police verification of those they employ. Apart from this, those who are deputed for painting or other works in their shops should also be verified. They should keep the phone numbers of local police station and if they find anything or anybody suspicious they should promptly inform police.
Each shop should have alarm system, inter-connected bell with their neighbourhood shops. Traders should inform police when they deposit or withdraw money from the banks. They should depute night watchman in coordination with neighbouring shopkeepers. Traders were told to avoid purchasing gold items from unknown persons. The traders appealed to police to install CCTV cameras in the market areas.
