Pradeep Bhandari

Anomalies in the government college at Joshimath continue to pose problems for the local youths seeking higher education here. In a recent case, the last date for admission which was earlier fixed at July 31 was arbitrarily altered to July 26 by some teaching faculty in the absence of the college principal. This has deprived many youth from securing admission in this college. Youth who purchased the admission form and prospectus from the government college Joshimath point out that the last date for admission as stated on the prospectus was July 31 however, this date was latered altered to July 26. Many students were unable to submit their admission forms on July 26 as they were going by July 31 as the last date for this task. It is pertinent to mention here that the last date for admission in most colleges affiliated to the Garhwal Central University is July 31. The change in last date for admission affected reported by some faculty members has raised questions on the college administration contravening regulations of the university. The arbitrary change in the last date for admission has also raised questions at the functioning of the college.

The post of the college principal here has been without a fulltime principal with the principal of the government college in Gopeshwar handing the additional charge of the Joshimath government college principal.local youth and college students complain that one lecturer is handling the various activities of the college. College lecturer Asharam Bijalwan states that the last date for admissions in the college was July 26. However, he refused to say anything regarding July 31 being stated as the last date for admission in the college prospectus. The principal in-charge DC Nainwal said that this is wrong but added that admissions can be given on remaining seats after August 8.
