The statement of the state BJP chief Ajay Bhatt on the emotive Gairsain issue has sparked a major row, resulting in the opposition Congress and the statehood activists launching a scathing attack on the saffron party leader. Notably, the state BJP chief had said that he was never in favour of holding the Assembly session at Gairsain till basic facilities were put into place. He had even advised the state government not to convene the Assembly session at Gairsain.
Quick to latch on to the row, the state Congress chief Pritam Singh said that it has exposed the double standards of the BJP regarding the matter. He reminded that in the run-up to the Assembly election, BJP had promised to shift the capital to Gairsain in three months on being elected to power. “The stand of the state BJP chief is in line with the saffron party’s old strategy to mislead the people during the electioneering. The party has done nothing on Gairsain except engaging in rhetoric.
Whatever infrastructure and other facilities are available at Gairsain today were set up during the Congress-helmed regime,’’ he said. The activists of ‘Gairsain Rajdhani Nirman Abhiyan’ also attacked Bhatt for his statement on Gairsain. The activists who have been holding a sit- in at the protest site near Parade Ground over the past many days termed the statement as an affront against the collective sentiment of the state.
