In view of the increasing cases of the Covid-19 in the State, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh has doubled the number of beds reserved for the Covid-19 patients. The institute has also increased the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds for these patients. Presently, the premier health institute of the State had 100 beds reserved for the Covid-19 patients in the Corona ward.

At present, 30 Covid-19 patients are admitted in the institute. The Dean of Hospital Administration AIIMS Rishikesh, U B Mishra said the Covid ward of the hospital had 100 beds which have now been increased to 200 beds. This will facilitate admission of new patients. He added that the ‘Patient Remote Sensing System’ has also been installed in the two Corona wards.

The objective of this facility is to reduce the risk of infection to hospital staff taking care of the Covid19 patients. Mishra informed that the Covid-19 ward previously had only one ICU, but now another ICU has been set up for patients with critical conditions infected by Covid-19. “In the new ICU, 15 additional ventilators have also been arranged, so that they can be used when needed. It is noteworthy that the risk of viral infection could increase during the rainy season. In such a situation, AIIMS has made these additional arrangements for the convenience of Covid -19 patients in view of the circumstances”, he said.
