In order to conduct panchayat election peacefully, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Garhwal Range Amit Sinha presided over a meeting with police officers and gave them necessary instructions on Tuesday. He also reviewed crime cases with the police officers and expressed disappointment at increasing crime cases including burglary, thuggery, chain snatching and other offences in the district. DIG directed the circle officers to initiate effective measures to reduce crime.

Sinha instructed the the circle officers to convene meetings with the prominent citizens and social groups to seek their cooperation with the police for peaceful completion of three tire election. The police officers were directed to review the polling centres, which were earlier categorised as sensitive and ultra sensitive with police station officers. All the necessary steps should be taken in those areas where polling centres are demarcated as sensitive and ultra sensitive earlier. COs were directed to convene meeting with the police station officers periodically and draft a plan for traffic management, security arrangement and other aspects.

The DIG directed the COs to resolve pending cases after reviewing these periodically with their subordinates. Some temporary police posts need to be made under Raipur and Cantt police station to effectively police the areas. COs should take steps to prevent crimes and ensure speedy redressal of registered cases. It has been learnt that most of crime cases are transferred to Special Operation Group (SOG) which is not appreciable. He laid emphasis on solving crime cases at police station level.
