Acting on the general terror alert issued two days ago by the Centre involving all the air force stations and air bases across the country, particularly those located in north India, additional police forces have been deployed at and around Jolly Grant Airport. This aside, local police are conducting vehicle checking drives in the airport’s neighbourhood. It is learnt that anti- terrorist squad personnel have been stationed outside the airport area too.
It is pertinent to mention here that the security of Jolly Grant Airport in Uttarakhand is being managed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). CISF force has been equipped with modern facilities to face any eventuality.
Sources said that the security personnel were conducting double checks to prevent anyone from entering the airport with a kind of explosives and weapons. The CISF has deployed armed staff in civil dress to keep a hawk-eye vigil and to take on any situation coming in case of an attack.
Following the high alert having come from the central intelligence agency, instruction has been issued to the police department to deploy adequate number of police personnel outside each entry gate of the airport.
Doiwala police station in-charge inspector Vikram Singh Rawat said that additional police forces have been stationed around the Jolly Grant Airport. Vehicle checking drives are being launched since the alert was sounded. Police are checking and questioning the suspicious persons. Furthermore, to rev up security around Jolly Grant Airport, a post has been established there,” he added.
A police officer said despite the alert being general, they are leaving nothing to chance, taking the warning seriously.
