A social activist based in Haridwar JP Badoni said the administration had not granted him permission to show a film that depicts police fawning on the violators of law being handsomely bribed. The film was scheduled to be shown by projector on March 29. But the officiating city magistrate/ sub-divisional magistrate Haridwar rejected the plea, citing model code of conduct being in force for Bhagwanpur Assembly by-election. He said he had advanced the date to on April 18 for the projector show. “However, till now I have received no confirmation. Preparation for the show is going on in full swing as I hope the administrative clearance would come on time. I have demanded adequate security from the district police to ensure things are peaceful during the show,” he said.
Badoni added that the film will show how and where police are charging ‘suvidha shulk’ to those who are indulging in myriad forms of malpractice. He further said the tourist season approaching, it would be hey day for the cops as they would earn extra bucks.
Asked if permission is withheld this time too, he said that he would fast on the appointed day and would march from Devpura Chowk to Har ki Pauri. Besides, he will send the CD of the film to the Director General of Police (DGP) Uttarakhand, Home Secretary Uttarakhand and Central Vigilance New Delhi.
Bir Singh Budhiyal, SDM / City Magistrate (officiating) Haridwar said they had received the application for permission. “I am awaiting confirmation from police and intelligence department. If the report is positive permission will be granted,” he said
