A delegation of Dehradun City Bus service federation met the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Dehradun on Tuesday and demanded that strict action should be taken against the bus drivers involved in negligent and rash driving.

The delegation led by the President of the federation, Vjay Vardhan Dandariyal told the RTO that drivers involved in rash driving under the influence of Alcohol should be booked under section 184 of Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. Under this an imprisonment of six months and a penalty of Rs 1000 is provisioned.

The delegation said that the transport authorities should suspend the driving license for one month of the offenders in the first offence and terminate his license if he repeats this act next time.

Dandariyal claimed that the Federation imparts lessons on safe driving to the drivers from time to time and many have benefited from these lessons. The RTO Sudhanshu Garg told the delegation that the offending drivers would not be allowed to play with the safety of the people and said that the department would take strict action against the guilty.

The people of the city regularly complain about the rash, negligent and dangerous driving of the city buses. In recent past many incidences where city bus drivers rammed their vehicles on others have occurred.

On Monday also a bus driver under influence of alcohol wrecked havoc on  the busy Subhash Road as he smashed as many as nine vehicles before halting his bus; fortunately barring a women no one was injured in the incident.
