Along with students of University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members protested at the university campus on Thursday against the alleged delay in giving medical help to a student who died after being taken to hospital.

MBA final year student at UPES, Gaurav died after a workout at the university gymnasium earlier this week. ABVP member Himanshu Gogiya said that a meeting was held with the university officials on Thursday. After which the officials had withdrawn the order for suspension of five students who had first staged protest in the campus against the delay in providing medical help to Gaurav by the university staff. He further said that in the meeting, all the demands kept by students before university officers were addressed by the university officers. Gogiya claimed that students called off their agitation after receiving assurance of redressal of their demands from the university officers.

Earlier, the protesters gheraoed the university officers and shouted slogans against the university administration. According to protesters, Gaurav had complained of breathlessness and fatigue after which he was taken to a private hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.  Following this, students expressed anger at the university management, blaming them for the lapses that allegedly led to the death of Gaurav. According to students, the university ambulance did not have a technical person, due to which there was delay in taking Garuav to the hospital. They also alleged that the medical facilities provided on campus by the university were inadequate and the doctors were unable to meet the medical needs of the students in emergency scenarios.
