The chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Negi has written a letter to the chief of District Child Welfare Committee (DCWC) regarding the protection of an infant who was reportedly found near a drain in Dakpatthar area.

According to Negi, she came to know about this issue through a piece of viral news on social media about a baby girl who was allegedly left by some people near a drain of Dakpatthar area early on Friday morning.

After Negi talked to Vikasnagar police and a member of DCWC, it was confirmed that the infant was left near the drain around 5 AM and a stray dog was apparently guarding the baby till she was found by nearby people.

After the people called police, the infant was taken to the health centre for a health check-up where her health was found to be stable.

Negi said that the baby will soon undergo a thorough health examination and afterwards, she will be sent to the Shishu Niketan by DCWC.

She also informed that after all these procedures, the adoption committee will start the process of putting the baby up for adoption.

Furthermore, Negi has directed the chief of DCWC to take all the necessary steps to provide protection to the infant and asked the committee to submit the report about the same within 15 days.
