Demanding maximum punishment for the accused of alleged rape/ abortion of a speech and hearing impaired inmate of Nari Niketan, Aam Admi Party Mahila Morcha members led by Puja Bhalla protested at the Collectorate in Dehradun on Wednesday while shouting slogans against the State government. The members later submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through an administrative officer.

Earlier, scores of AAP Mahila Morcha members assembled at the Collectorate to stage the stir. They alleged that women are vulnerable with crimes against them seeing a spurt everywhere in the State. “We are all feeling insecure and scared with the police and the administration taking no deterrent action,” said one of the agitators. Another said that Nari Niketan- the shelter home of the destitute or physically/mentally crippled women and of the victims of domestic violence-being embroiled in such an unseemly controversy has lowered the image of the State. An independent, high-level inquiry is what is needed to expose it in full and bring those responsible to book,” the protestor said.
