A total of ninety two athletes of Garhwal region will represent Uttarkhand in the national athletics competition to be held in the month of January 2014 in Chhattisgarh.
These athletes were selected in the State athletics competition held in Haldwani where athletes from schools of Dehradun, Maharana Pratap Sports College Dehradun and Rudraprayag showed their supremacy in the different events in the senior boys, senior girls, junior boys, junior girls and sub junior boys and girls categories. Additional Director, Education, Garhwal region, Narendra Singh Rana and regional sports coordinator Kesar Singh Aswal congratulated the selected athletes and hoped that they will perform well at the national level to win laurels for the Garhwal region and the State.The Garhwal Region Sports Coordinator said that 19 competitors will represent the state at the national level in senior boys, 19 in senior girls, 17 in junior boys, 16 in junior girls, 11 in sub junior boys and 10 in the sub junior girls categories in different events.
Only the competitors who secure first and second positions in the State competition will represent Uttarakhand in the National competition along with athletes selected from Kumaon region. The squad from Garhwal region in senior boys includes Mohit Kumar (MP Sports College Dehradun), Mohammed Ahmed, Anshul Kothiyal, Nakul and Abhaya, Anju Kumar, Navin Singh, Bhagwan Singh, Shivam Saini, Chandan Singh, Virendra Singh, Pawan Negi, Sachin Singh and Kailash Rana. The senior girls category members include Parul, Mala, Kamla Bisht, Pooja Goswami, Manisha, Shivani, Archana, Vineeta, Raveena, Swati, Priyanka, lakshmi, Shilpa Purohit and Shivani Yadav. Some of the players in both the categories will participate in more than one event. The sports will include track races, javelin throw, shot put, hammer throw, long jump and high jump among others. 92 athletes from Garhwal to represent state at national meet
