While the education department is planning to appoint guest faculty teachers in the vacant posts of lecturers and lecturer Teachers (lT), the organisation of lT and lecturers, the Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh (RSS)
has expressed its resentment on these temporary appointments.
To appoint guest faculty teachers the education department had invited applications in the month of June. The department has created a block wise cadre for recruitment of these teachers. There are about 4000 vacant posts of teachers in the lT and lecturer cadre where the guest faculties would be appointed.
A remuneration of Rs 125 per period would be paid to lT while the lecturers would be given Rs 150 per period provided the total monthly payment does not exceed Rs 15000. These appointments would be purely temporary and these candidates would be removed once permanent teachers are available. It is learnt that about 89000 unemployed Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) qualified candidates have applied for the posts of guest faculty.
The RSS however is up in arms against these appointments. The State President of the association Karnel Singh said that the education department should complete the process of promotions of lecturer and lTs and then proceed with the guest faculty scheme. The Divisional President of Garhwal division of the RSS, RS Chauhan told The Pioneer that instead of giving temporary appointments on paltry wages the department should give permanent appointment to the eligible youths.
He expressed surprise on the fact that the department is on one hand transferring lTs on the pretext that they are surplus and on other hand appointing temporary teachers. Many serving teachers are also apprehensive that once appointed these guest faculty teachers would form an association and would put pressure on the State Government to regularise their services like in similar such cases in past.
They also fear that the guest faculty scheme would prompt backdoor entries into the department. They allege that the influential and resourceful candidates would sneak into the department at the cost of eligible ones in this process of recruitment.
