A total of 674 students passed out from the Swami Ram Himalayan University at its fourth convocation in which the Union Human Resource Development minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ was the chief guest. Addressing the students on the occasion, Nishank exhorted them to work with an attitude of service to society.

Talking to media persons, the union minister opined that there is a shortage of doctors in the mountainous regions. However, the SRHU is working towards addressing this issue. The Himalayan hospital is also serving the public at Tehri district hospital and in Pauri. It is also working to make the youth self reliant in the spheres of self-employment and skill development.

The State Minister for Higher Education, Dhan Singh Rawat said that it was a matter of happiness that Swami Ram’s dream of education and health facility for the masses in Uttarakhand is being fulfilled. Stressing on orienting higher education towards employment, he said that through higher education the youth can be transformed into job givers instead of job seekers. Qualitative improvements will have to be made in higher education for this in the state with special focus on skill development and vocational education.

The university vice chancellor Vijay Dhasmana said that efforts are being made to work according to the vision and mission with which Swami Ram had established this institution. Swami Ram’s mission was to serve the mountains and the institution is working to move ahead in this direction, he said.
