Almost 50 cases of dengue have been reported in Dehradun in the last one month and the number is increasing.
The Doon Hospital authorities have made special arrangements for treatment of the dengue afflicted.
However, observers point out that the lack of sanitation and fumigation in the city continues to provide conducive conditions for the spread of this disease.
Chief medical superintendent (CMS) of Doon Hospital, Dr RS Agrawal said that, in the last one month around 45 cases of dengue have been registered in the Doon Hospital. People are afraid of dengue so the rate of suspect cases being reported is increasing daily out of which only 25 per cent patients are found to be suffering from the disease, said the CMS.
He also said that people are not aware of symptoms of dengue therefore number of suspects is increasing. Two wards- ward number 17 and ward number 18 in Doon Hospital have been reserved only for dengue patients and different doctors of the hospital are treatingthe patients.
The hospital has full stock of medicines to be administered to the dengue patients. Around 20 posters were pasted in the hospital’s premises to make the public aware of this dangerous disease. The posters contain information on the main reason of dengue and its symptoms which will definitely help the patients, he added.
The Dehradun Chief Medical Officer, Dr Gurpal Singh said that this problem is not only being experienced in Dehradun. The State Government is responsible for taking necessary measures to tackling the spread of dengue, he added.
However, observers point out that the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun is failing to maintain the desired level of civic sanitation in the State capital.
This, coupled with the general public ignorance about the do's and dont's related to dengue is exacerbating the problem.
