The three day workshop organised by Rotary club Roorkee central in Anushruti school concluded with the paintings made by the hearing and speech impaired children put on display for the visitors. The students were taught how to make deco patch painting, glass painting and handicrafts from the waste household material.
The handicraft trainer who is employed at military cantonment board as vocational course teacher Garima Chadha told The Pioneer, “These special children have very sharp grasping power. They observe minutely the movements made for making painting. Working with these special children I did not find them lagging behind in any way than other children. It was a pleasure to be with them during three days and their artifacts were appreciated by many including those in IIT Roorkee.”
Seeing the success of the workshop, the club president Vandana Mohan said that in future many more such workshops will be held. Presiding over the valedictory function, the chief guest Charu Chaturvedi said that the contented smile on the faces of the children showed that they were no less than their peer groups. Explaining the deco patch painting, Garima said, “Some photograph is cut from old calendar or magazine and it is pasted on a board in such a way that it mingles with the background painting. A thin solution of adhesive is used as varnish which gives a shiny look as if the whole painting is made with professional hands.”
