A 21-year- old girl reportedly jumped into Ganga river at a place near Ganga Vihar Sai Ghat in Rishikesh in an attempted suicide on Monday. Police conducting rescue operation, she was yet to be traced till the time of filing the report. She has been identified as Diksha Kandpal, resident of Shampur, Rishikesh. Police sources said that she has been under depression for the last few years. As per the eye witnesses, the girl was seen weeping at the ghat and later she reached Sai Mandir ghat . When she was about to jump into the river a saint present there stopped her. However, determined to end her life, she walked a few distance away from Sai Mandir ghat and leaped into the river. The current of the river being strong, the local police failed to continue the rescue operation for long. A Rishikesh-based police officer said that the family members of the girl have been informed while the police are doing everything possible to trace the body.
