MCD still waiting for HC order on encroachment

Dehradun: Days after the High Court ordered the officials to remove encroachment from different areas of Dehradun like markets, streets and footpaths in four weeks, the officials concerned said on Friday that they were still waiting for the order to come. They, however, assured that they would execute the order once they get a copy and read it thoroughly.  The court order had come in the wake of  encroachers occupying  public spaces  along the roadsides and the footpaths of several important roads and markets of the city in flagrant violation of the rules. It is a common sight that the traders keep occupying a major part of the roads by extending their shops nearly right on the roads aside from occupying the footpaths meant for the pedestrians to walk on. Besides, the local vendors trading along the roads obstructing the traffic movement are further compounding the problem.

Asked to comment on the HC order, Vinay Pratap Singh, tax superintendent in municipal corporation of Dehradun (MCD), said, “We have learnt that the High Court has given an order on encroachment of the city roads and markets. However, we are yet to receive a copy of the order. We hope that the order would reach us by Monday,” he said.

He further said that once they  would receive the order the senior civic body  officers would meet. “After the meeting we would form several teams to be tasked with executing the HC order.  The encroachment removal drive would be launched soon in accordance with the order,” he assured.

He further demanded  an insurance policy  being framed on the gold items with minimum premium amount charged.
