leaving in the lurchIJ

The news of a premier force- working under the direct command of the Union government- shifting its base from Uttarakhand is bound to sadden the people of the mountainous state, particularly those who faced the nature’s wrath in June 2013 with a deluge of grim magnitude striking them.  They can still warmly remember the service the members of the force rendered to them during that time of the disaster. They question the decision for the shifting of the base, as the state is known as vulnerable to natural calamities.  The logic being cited to defend the decision is intriguing. It is said that they are shifting base as the state is not safe for them to work in.       True, they suffered losses during the 2013 disaster. But the question is- can the force which is meant to help the people in distress leave this way, leaving the multitude of the vulnerable people in the lurchIJ  Another question is cropping up. If the Centre has decided to shift the base of the force from the state, citing its vulnerability to natural calamity, does it not logically follow that the people staying in the precarious mountain tracks should be mass-shifted tooIJ      Aware of the adverse reaction the decision would spawn in its wake among the people, the Centre is seeking to underplay it, saying that just the headquarters is being shifted and the training camp would stay grounded here. However, things are far from convincing.

Deflating pranks in Raj Bhawan

Police personnel, deployed outside Raj Bhawan to manage traffic and crowd, are heard ranting furiously.  This is because the owners of the vehicles which are parked    inside the Annexe parking lot are complaining of the tyres being deflated.   The question is- who are the miscreants who are daring to play such pranks under the nose of the eagle-eyed cops in the high security zone.  If the vehicles are not safe there   where can they beIJ  During the spring festival in Raj Bhawan when people in their hordes thronged it they had their vehicles parked in the designated parking place and found them deflated when they were leaving the premises.  If we suppose that the police failed to notice things it means that something more serious than playing pranks might happen any day, jeopardizing the security of the premises whose importance can hardly be overstated.
