Eviction: Residents of lIC building meet Mayor
Dehradun: Residents and tenants of the lIC building on Chakrata Road met the Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli on Thursday alleging a conspiracy hatched by officials of life Insurance Corporation of India and MCD to get them to vacate the building. They complained that they had been served eviction notices by the MCD even though many of the tenants were living in portions which were not on the verge of collapse. Chamoli said that an institution like either the IIT-Roorkee or Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre would be asked to check the condition of the building and a decision would be taken based on its report.
The tenants and residents were recently served notices by the MCD asking them to vacate the building which is liable to collapse or damage due to dilapidation. However, the affected people alleged that those using the portions not liable to collapse were also served the notices.
