Construction of the motor road to link Kafalna, Paubo, Bheeta, Pariya and other villages of the Edwalsyun Patti in Pauri district to the Pauri-Devprayag motor road at Ghurdauri has not been completed so far, more than two decades after it was sanctioned.
The work remaining in a limbo, the people who are being forced to trudge extra 25 kms are now hoping that their plight would end soon with the State being under the President’s Rule.
Satyakhal-Chavath road was completed by the erstwhile Uttar Pradesh regime before Uttarakhand came up as a State. Besides, the stretch of Chavath-Paubo road was completed too in 2006. However, the stretch running into nearly two kilometer has remained incomplete for the past ten years.
With things hanging in balance, the villagers of Edwalsyun Patti have to travel an extra 25 kms via Pauri to reach Dehradun. Now enthused with the regime change with the Governor taking a lead role in development, the villagers have submitted memorandum to the Governor, appealing to him to take initiatives to have the rest of the Satyakhal-Ghurdori road completed promptly. They say the stretch must be completed while the State is under President’s Rule or things would start vegetating again after the political rule is restored.
Public Works Department’s provincial division executive engineer Nirbhaya Singh said that the four kilometer stretch of Satyakhal-Ghurdori motorable road from Satyakhal to Chavath had been sanctioned by the Uttarakhand Government way back in 2006. However, Nirbhaya Singh said that the road from Paubo to Ghurdori -the stretch of nearly two and half kilometer- is yet to be sanctioned, adding that efforts will be made to include Paubo-Ghurdori stretch in the district plan to speed things up.
A resident of the area Sardar Singh Rawat said that as far as the Satyakhal-Ghurdori motorable road is concerned the stretch of ten kms had been sanctioned by the erstwhile UP regime before Uttarakhand was carved out. “Works of eight kilometers have been completed so far. The stretch from Chavath to Kafalna is not perfect, while the state of the stretch from Kafalna to Paubo is the worst. Things would hopefully look up now with the State being under the President’s Rule,” he said.
