She was rushed to a private hospital from where she was referred to a higher centre. Notably, a case had been registered by the girl in SIIDCUl police station after  two youths had allegedly molested her in her residence two days ago. Police said that property dispute might have been the trigger of the acid attack.

Speaking of the incident, station house officer Jawalpur police station, Amarjeet Singh said, “The attack occurred near Durga bridge in Jwalpur. We have recorded the statement of the girl. She identified one of the two accused. We are on the lookout for the duo.”

It is learnt from police sources that the girl had mentioned Sudheer Saini, as one of the two accused, while  lodging  a molestation complaint at SIIDCUl police station two days ago. “She said that Sudheer is one of the two accused of the acid attack that was made on Monday. We have learnt that the girl and the accused Saini are residents of the same colony in Roshnabad area of Haridwar. There is a property dispute involving   the girl’s family and some locals of Navodya Nagar,” a police probing the case informed.

The cousin of the girl, Rehan said that Sudheer had  come to her residence  on 25 May and threatened her. “There is a plot of land in front of the house in Shiv Ganga Vihar where the family is constructing a room. But Sudheer alleged that the area was encroached by them. He claimed he and another Vineet Saini are the owners of this piece of land,” he said.

The mother of the survivor said, “I had gone to the bank. When I returned I got the information of the incident. Her back and hands were burnt in the attack. The local legislator Adesh Chauhan is supporting the attackers and my girl was subjected to the attack at his instance. Police must take stern action against him.”
