2 days on, no clue of trio involved in theft at businessman's house

Two days after three swindlers allegedly fled with gold items weighing around three kg, deceiving an Ajabpur- based jeweller Sachin Rastogi, Dehradun police are yet to arrest any of the trio. This is despite the fact that several police teams have been formed and sent to various places, including Patiala in Punjab, to nab the accused since the complaint was lodged at the Nehru Colony police station on Wednesday.

Police sources say that the swindling happened when Sachin was on the lookout for persons who would purchase the gold items while helping him to dodge income tax.

“As per the Income Tax guidelines, a jeweller should procure Pan Card numbers from the buyers when the amount of the sale involved is   Rs 50, 000 and more.  Sachin should thus have also secured PAN Card numbers from the persons to whom he sold three kg gold items whose price is no less than Rs 1.5 crore in the market.

What happened is that the buyers gave the jeweller a bag which they said contained the money fixed for the deal. But when Sachin opened the bag he was shocked to find that the bag was stacked with fake currencies and some papers cut into the size of currency. He informed the police following which the shop was sealed. But we are yet to nab the culprits,” said a police officer probing the case.

As per the complaint lodged by Rastogi, his friend Arun Saini had informed him on Saturday that his friends from Patiala- Manjeeet Singh and Manohar Singh- were coming to him to purchase the gold items and the duo would sell the gold items to a Haridwar- based ascetic.  Accordingly, Sachin had met the duo and his friend Saini on Monday and the deal had been fixed.  Following which, the gold items had been handed over to them on Wednesday and a bag of ‘money’ was exchanged.

Subsequently, a case was registered against unidentified persons in the Nehru Colony police station, said SP City Ajay Singh, adding that the teams formed to crack the case are on the lookout for the swindlers.
