Noted environmentalists, academicians, spiritual leaders and students will take part in a two-day workshop on conservation and restoration of the Ganga River at Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh starting on May 8. The workshop is being jointly organised by Ganga Action Parivar, Parmarth Niketan and Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi.

According to Ganga Action Parivar founder and Parmarth Niketan head Swami Chidanand Saraswati, “The main objective of the workshop is to bring together a select group of thought, policy and practice leaders from government, academia and civil society, especially from Uttarakhand.

It aims to call inputs from participants on pertinent issues related to the conservation and restoration of the sacred Ganga and to work out an action and participation plan to sensitise, engage and involve local communities and mobilize the stakeholders. Based on the stakeholder’s dialogue the workshop would come up with recommendations and suggestions for bridging the gaps in Ganga rejuvenation efforts.

It will also explore strategies, needs and opportunities, as well as identify potential partner institutions, organisations and individuals while identifying their roles and responsibilities in the task of Ganga rejuvenation,” he said.

Under the vision and mission of Swachchh Bharat and Namami Gange, a clean up programme will also be organised on May 9 at Raiwala railway station, he added
