Acting on a tip-off regarding gambling going on on a broad scale under Dalanwala Police Station area, the Special Task Force (STF) teams raided a house at Mohini Road and arrested 14 gamblers on Thursday.
Police also recovered betting slips and betting amount worth Rs 22.95 lakh from the spot while Rs 4.65 lakh was recovered from the possession of the gamblers during frisking, said State Director General of Police BS Sidhu on Thursday. Some gamblers are property dealers and they hail from New Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
A case under sections ¾ of Gambling Act was registered against the accused in Dalanwala Police Station.
The accused have been identified as Kotwali resident Ajay Kumar, luniya Mohallah resident Rahul Goyal, Chukhuwala resident Rajendra Kumar, Sahastradhara resident Anup Negi, Race Course resident Kamal Kothiyal, Khurbura resident Pramod Jain, Industrial Town, Faridabad (Haryana) native Indra Kumar, Chaman Vihar resident Gaurav Goyal, Chhiddawala resident Anil Ahuja, Mohani Road resident Suresh Kumar, Patelnagar resident Dabbu Gupta, Pithuwala resident Furkan Ali, Geeta Colony (East Delhi) resident Ravindra Singh and Roorkee Road- Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) native Rajeev Verma.
A case against Anil Kumar has already been registered under Gambling Act in Kotwali Police Station, Dehradun and a case under Gangster Act has also been registered against him in Haridwar.
The STF team was headed by circle officer Pramod Kumar, STF inspector DC Dhaundiyal, sub-inspectors Santosh Shah, CBS Adhikari, NK Bhatt, Amar Chand Sharma and some others. DGP has announced reward of Rs 10, 000 to the teams for arresting the gamblers, it is learnt.
