A hundred Congress workers, set to show black flags to BJP president Amit Shah on his arrival, were arrested on Thursday morning by the Haridwar police. However, they were released soon after Shah completed his speech. A tiff arose between the Congress youth wing workers and the police at Bhagat Singh Chowk over police stopping the Youth Congress activists from reaching the site where Shah was to address a gathering.
Since the morning, Youth Congress activists started gathering at National Youth Centre at Bhagat Singh Chowk. As around 600 workers had gathered police stepped up security arrangements to ward off any unwanted incident. Around 100 YC activists were arrested and later released by police.
Speaking to The Pioneer, a Youth Congress leader Ram Vishal Yadav said, "We just wanted to express anger against the imposition of President’s Rule. Amit Shah is the key person behind the murder of democracy in Uttarakhand."
