The State Government may not have any concrete plan to equip the hitherto ‘neglected’ primary health centres in remote and hilly areas of the Himalayan State with requisite health staff and facilities as all know, but it has decided to open as many as 10 new medical colleges across the State within two years.
“More so, apart from setting up 10 new medical colleges across the State, we have also plan to open a medical university in Uttarakhand,” said Harak Singh Rawat, State Medical Education Minister during his Kumaon visit here on Tuesday.
The Uttarakhand Medical University will soon come into existence as the State Government has submitted a proposal in this regard to the Governor, Rawat further said, adding with that Uttarakhand will become fifth State in the county which will have that kind of a medical university.
At the same time the State Medical Education Minister informed that the Almora Medical College would become ready by 2015.The State Government has already grant its clearance in this regard. About `400 will be spent to complete this Almora Medical College, added the State Medical Education Minister.
Besides, as talks are with the Government of India so we are hopeful that the Ministry of health and family welfare, Government of India will soon provide fund to construct building of the proposed Rudrapur Medical College in Udham Singh Nagar, Rawat expressed hope.
The State Government is also planning to open nursing training centre in every district. One such nursing training centre will also be set up at the Government Medical college campus, Haldwani, he added.
Such kind of medical infrastructure will not only help us maintain necessary health staff but also strengthen health services in the State in the long run, Rawat further said.
