Zero tolerance for corruption and complete transparency would be maintained in transfers in Punjab Health and Family Welfare Department.

“If any official or other person is found involved in

corruption for arranging favourable postings at any level in the department, strict action will be taken,” stated the State Health and Family Welfare Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani.

Chairing a meeting of Civil Surgeons and Senior Medical Officers (SMOs), Jyani made it clear that transfers would be done on merit and all efforts will be made to adjust

doctors and other employees at the nearest places of their

residences.

He said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal have directed senior leaders of SAD and BJP that they should not approach for transfers of those employees who are not performing their duty properly.

The Minister said that complaint boxes would be put up at prominent places in hospital premises and warned that government doctors doing private practice would not be tolerated. Minister said that people should also register their complaints online by e-mailing to the Principal Secretary, Secretary, Additional Secretary, MD, PHSC and Director, Health.

Jyani also instructed the senior officials to redress the complaints on priority basis and seriously in a time bound manner. “The government doctors doing private practice would not be tolerated and Civil Surgeons and CMOs would be held accountable for such practices,” he added.

He said that he along with Health director, Punjab Health Systems Corporation’s managing director, Health Special Secretary, Health Secretary and other senior officials would conduct inspections in various hospitals of two districts on every Friday and Saturday.

Earlier the chief parliamentary secretary Navjot Kaur Sidhu said that district level officials should take strict action against non-performing doctors and supporting staff otherwise they would be held responsible.

She also advocated that proper guidelines of the Head Office should be followed for posting doctors on VIP duty.
