As the Indian hockey team created a history in Tokyo by winning a medal in the recently-concluded Olympic Games after a gap of four decades, a book ‘Tokyo Olympics De Saade Hockey Khidari’ — based on a brief biography of bronze medal winning players — was penned by a sports writer and a public relations practitioner Navdeep Gill.

The book, fifth by Gill, was released by Punjab Olympic Association president Brahm Mohindra during an event organised by the association to honour the Bronze-medallist Indian Hockey team players.

Association’s senior vice president Rajdeep Singh Gill, secretary general Raja KS Sidhu, Hockey Punjab secretary Pargat Singh, and Punjab’s players of Olympic medal winning hockey team, including team captain Manpreet Singh, were also present on the occasion.

Congratulating the author, POA president Brahm Mohindra said that Gill has made a great effort to record the achievements of the players.

Former Indian Hockey team captain Padam Shri Pargat Singh said that it was a great achievement to write literature on sports and players. “This book, written on the biography of the players, would be a source of inspiration for future generations,” he said adding that Punjabis have excelled in every field besides making a significant contribution in the sports internationally. In Tokyo, the Indian hockey team won a medal in the Olympic Games after 41 years.

Gill, who is serving as an Information and Public Relations Officer in Punjab Government, said that the book comprises a brief biography of all 19 hockey players and Chief Coach Graham Reid. The book also provides information on the history of Indian Hockey at the Olympic Games and the performance of the Indian Hockey Team at the Tokyo Olympics, he added.

Gill has been writing about sports and players for the last 20 years.
