A 24 year-old woman was raped by an auto rickshaw driver after she hired a three- wheeler to go home from Mohali on Thursday night.
The woman who works in a private hospital at Mohali phase-4 as a receptionist, told police that an auto-rickshaw driver raped her in the forest area adjoining Maloya.
The victim hired an auto from Mohali Phase-4 to her residence at Maloya colony. However, the driver pretended that due to heavy rainfall, his auto has stopped working near the forest area and asked her to help him to push it. As soon as Anjali stepped out of the three wheeler, the driver forcefully took her to the forest area and raped her. He threatened her with dire consequences if she informed anyone about the incident.
However, the victim informed the local police and a case against the accused has been registered. Police identified the accused as Sunil Dutt, a resident of Maloya. Police conducted a raid at the residence of Sunil, however he had already escaped from his home and is still absconding.
