Will protect reservation rights of OBCs, says Saini

Nishu Mahajan

BJP Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini, who has been vocal against Jat reservation, has threatened to lead an agitation to protect the reservation rights of Other Backward Classes (OBC)s and ensure that no injustice is meted out to them.

Saini, who has been in the dock over his alleged anti-Jat rants, also warned his own party of losing his support in case the OBCs are deprived of their rights.

“Jats have forced the State Government to give them reservation. But, I will fight against the gundagardi (unruliness) and contest any attempt to scuttle the rights of OBCs reservation,” said BJP’s defiant MP Saini, while talking to the mediapersons here.

With Jat community announcing to start fresh four-phase agitation to press for the grant of reservation and other related demands from November 28, Saini launched a shrill attack on the Jat community saying that they are again trying to disturb the peace and harmony in Haryana.

Taking a dig at the four-phase agitation including ‘bhaichara yatra’ by Jats, the BJP leader said that they (Jats) should sit at home, if they want peace in the state.

Notably, All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) national president Yashpal Malik had recently announced to start agitation from November 28 onwards to press for quota and release of those arrested during the violent February stir.

The four phases agitation would begin with submission of memorandum of their demands to the MPs, followed by submission of memorandums to BJP national leaders and then, beginning a yatra  to promote brotherhood in the state. In case, the government fails to act on their demands, the agitation will enter the fourth phase, during which Jats across the state would sit on indefinite dharnas.

The fresh agitation would be third after the February Jat quota stir, which had witnessed unprecedented large-scale violence killing at least 30 people and destructing properties worth crores. The second agitation was organised in June, which ended peacefully.

Saini, who heads an OBC brigade, was issued a show cause notice by the BJP for making statements dubbed “inflammatory” during February’s Jat quota agitation.

Referring to the ink attack on him by five youth last month, Saini said that the entire episode was pre-planned as these youths were also honoured by their community.

“It is really unfortunate that those five youth who had attacked me were honoured as if they won a war at Indo-Pak border,” said the infuriated MP.

The BJP MP also lashed out at INlD’s senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala saying, “Chautala kept issuing statements against me after the entire episode.”

Continuing his tirade against Chautala, he said, “The INlD leader had announced to dig up the SYl canal next year. I challenge him to do so now if he is serious on the SYl canal issue.”

Reacting to Punjab Government’s refusal to accept Supreme Court’s orders on SYl canal, the MP said, “The BJP led Central and Haryana Government should ensure the implementation of SC orders even if Army has to be deployed to implement it.”

Saini, who had recently demanded the post of Chief Minister in the next assembly elections, also announced to contest next Vidhan Sabha elections in Haryana.

The MP, however, refrained from responding to the queries related to floating a new political party ahead of next assembly polls in Haryana.

He also said that Rajya Sabha should be abolished immediately as it was set up by the Britishers to serve their own interest. Rajya Sabha is doing nothing except delaying the bills passed from the lok Sabha, he added.

Saini also announced that a Sammelan will be organised on November 28 at Kurukshetra to mark the death anniversary of social activist Jyotirao Phule.
