Virbhadra's promises ring hollow: Ram Swarup

Kishori lal

BJP candidate from Mandi constituency, Ram Swarup Sharma launched a scathing attack on CM Virbhadra Singh and his wife, Pratibha Singh, Congress candidate for making false promises during the elections which were seldom fulfilled by them. While addressing a series of public meetings in Sundernagar sub-division, he said, it was an irony that six-time CM of the State and thrice as Union Minister, Raja Virbhadra Singh had been promising every time before the election to get the rail network expanded up to Mandi and Bilaspur, but had failed to do it over 40 years.

Sharma said during the 2009 elections, Virbhadra Singh and his colleagues befooled the people of Mandi that a big dam will be constructed on Beas at Mandi to make a big lake as the river goes dry in winter due to the diversion of entire Beas water into Sutlej... Nothing was done by Virbhadra Singh after winning the election. Immediately after assuming power last year, he closed many educational institutions, but reopened them when his wife was given a ticket by the Congress High Command from Mandi constituency.

He said that the people of Mandi could not be befooled any more by the Rajas and Ranis who had been usurping Mandi Parliamentary seat since Independence, except two exceptions when non- royals Pt Sukh Ram and Ganga Singh became the MPs from here. The BJP candidate said after the unprecedented Modi rally at Mandi, the Modi wave had assumed a formidable shape of tsunami in which Congress would be washed away from the sacred soil of Himachal Pradesh. He said Congress candidate Pratibha Singh, who was dreaming of a cake walk in Mandi  would be defeated  with a big margin.

BJP national general secretary, JP Nada, is presently touring Mandi parliamentary constituency canvassing for Sharma, highlighted the sins and scandals of Congress and Virbhadra Singh. He said at Sundernagar, “UPA jane wali hai, BJP Anne wali Hai” (UPA Government is going, and BJP is staging a big comeback).

Mahender Singh, MlA and former BJP Minister is also canvassing for Mandi BJP candidate. Addressing public gathering at Sarkaghat on Saturday, he said that the Modi wave had penetrated deep into the rural areas and the BPP would win all the 4 parliamentary seats in Himachal Pradesh. District BJP chief, Jawahar Singh Thakur, who is doing vigorous canvassing in Darang constituency for Ram Swarup  Sharma said here that all eyes were set on Modi and people had made up their mind to decimate Congress.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders of Mandi, Health Minister Kaul Singh, Excise and Taxation Minister Prakash Chaudhary , Rural Development Minister Anil Sharma and former minister Rangila Ram Rao in separate statements had denied the existence of any Modi wave in Himachal Pradesh.
