UT Police Inspector Jaswinder Kaur booked for graft

PNS

The Central Bureau of Investigation has booked Inspector Jaswinder Kaur, station house officer of Manimajra police station in a graft case. Following this, the Chandigarh Police on Tuesday transferred Kaur to Police Lines while Inspector Neeraj Sarna from Traffic wing was appointed as SHO, Manimajra.

The case was registered against Kaur and her close associate Bhagwan Singh, as per the FIR registered by CBI.  Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Manimajra had approached the CBI on June 26 alleging that SHO Jaswinder Kaur had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from him if he did not want an FIR against him for cheating a man of Rs 28 lakh to get his wife a government job.  As per the complaint, Kaur demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh in lieu of closing the complaint and not registering any FIR. She further threatened Gurdeep Singh to implicate him in a false police case if he fails to pay the amount of Rs 5 lakh. She had further directed him to do all dealing of handling of bribes only through Bhagwan Singh.

Under threat and pressure, the complainant had paid Rs 2 lakh as first installment bribe to Bhagwan Singh on June 19. As complainant Gurdeep Singh did not want to give the remaining amount of bribe, he made a complaint to SP, CBI Chandigarh on June 26 against Jaswinder Kaur and Bhagwan Singh.

This is not the first time that the name of Inspector Jaswinder Kaur has cropped up in a graft case.  In 2017, the CBI had arrested Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohan Singh while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from complainant Prem Singh Bisht at the Sector 31 market. Bisht had approached the CBI after SI Mohan Singh allegedly demanded Rs9 lakh from him to drop the names of three of his employees from an FIR registered for an attempt to murder.  Later, the complainant had also filed an application against Kaur under Section 319 of the CrPC.

However, the CBI had not chargesheeted Kaur, but it is still awaiting a report for the grant of prosecution sanction against her from the competent authority.  Bisht had recently submitted an application at the Chandigarh CBI court alleging that he is being threatened by three SHOs of the Chandigarh Police force to turn hostile in court against Inspector Kaur.
