A day after city Mayor Subhash Chawla walked out of his office and surrendered the keys of his room and official car following the death of a city resident due to stray cattle menace, the city BJP on Thursday condemned the action of Mayor saying that Mayor’s gimmicks had destroyed the morale of officers of Municipal Corporation and the confidence of the general public.
The BJP leaders said that Mayor of any city is the first citizen of that city and supposed to be full of courage and capabilities to handle any and many adverse situations for the betterment of the citizen.
But unfortunately, the Mayor of Chandigarh has failed in that aspect and at the drop of hat; he either leaves the meeting unannounced or locks his office and leaves Corporation premises.
Mayor Subhash on Wednesday had walked out of his office and surrendered the keys to his room and official car saying that MCC officials didn’t act on his recommendations on the stray cattle problem. He had told mediapersons that he would come to his office to attend the House meeting only after the problem of stray cattle is solved.
Avinash, a resident of Sector 49 was killed when his scooter rammed into stray cattle at the Sector 46-49 lights on August 16.
He was rushed to GMCH-32 in a PCR vehicle where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment on August 20.
BJP leaders on Thursday said if Mayor is not capable of handling the situation of the city going bad to worse, he should rather resign before Congress party’s misrule, mismanagement and corruption kills the democratic institutions like Municipal Corporation and the city is plunged in dark.
The city BJP also slammed the Mayor for his statement that he is helpless and always asks the help of Administration.
In these conditions his quitting of the post, sooner it is done better is for the city and the Corporation, added the party leaders.
This is the second time that the city Mayor has threatened to leave his office. Earlier, he left the chair in the meeting of General House when the opposition members had brought an unsigned letter accusing him of corruption.
