Even as the UT Administration gears up to start its ambitious project of ‘Aadhaar-based biometric attendance system’ in all Government offices from Tuesday onwards, the higher authorities has failed to compile data of employees of different departments by evening.

The UT IT department is the nodal agency for the implementation of the project. The employees were asked to submit details including name, photographs, date of birth, Aadhaar card number, contact numbers, email ID, designations, offices and the unit, where they are working.

Various departments could supply only 30 to 40 per cent required details for the system to the IT Department. Given this situation, it would be quite difficult for the higher authorities to start the biometric system on Wednesday.

Sumesh Chander, consultant in the IT Department said, “We have got around 150 entries against the list of 200 employees.” Notably, the UT administration had earlier decided to introduce the biometric attendance system in all departments, boards, corporations and institutes with effect from March 1 this year, but it had failed to do so and extended the same to May 13.

The Administration has already installed more than 350 biometric attendance devices worth `28 lakh in all its offices. When contacted, Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner SB Deepak Kumar said that the project would start on time.

The new attendance system would ensure that the employees reach their offices in time and would also put a check on the practice of proxy attendance.
