BSF personnel shot dead two smugglers near the Indo-Pak border here and seized arms and ammunition from their possession on Wednesday. BSG DIG RPS Jaswal said the encounter took place at Border outpost Khalra in Amritsar sector.
Jaswal said BSF troops in the area had noticed suspicious movement near the fenceline and saw smugglers trying to throw something from the Pakistan side into the other side of the border. When BSF troops challenged the smugglers, they started firing on them, he said, adding that BSF troops had then opened fire in self-defence.
On searching the area, the bodies of two Indian smugglers were found, he said. A pistol, one magazine and seven rounds of ammunition have also been seized. Pakistani smugglers, however, managed to escape.
