Two brothers seek President help over sister's suicide

PNS

A day after 35-year-old woman committed suicide over “police inaction” against her molesters, her two brothers left their home at Dhanori village in Jind district on Sunday alleging that the local police are pressurising them to compromise with the accused. The woman had committed suicide on May 9 by consuming poison in front of one of the accused — the one she mentioned in her suicide note that he molested her about a year ago and had been harassing her since then.

Police remained silent over it for long, but later on after extreme pressure from the deceased woman’s family, they had to register a case against a dozen people, including six policemen and five local villagers for abetment to suicide.“Now the concerned police officials pressurising us to compromise with the accused”, alleged Shamsher Singh and Bharat Singh brothers of the deceased woman. However, now the brothers of the victim have sought permission to meet the President of India or they would seek permission to “end their lives”, added one of their relatives.

When contacted, the police refuted the charges and assured proper investigation in this case. However, no arrest has been made so far in this connection till the filing of this report.
