Actor Arjun Kapoor, who made his small screen debut as a fun, friendly and fearless host of reality TV show Khatron Ke Khiladi - Kabhi Peeda Kabhi Keeda, says the world of television is a great medium to connect with wider audience and people would know the real side of my personality through the show.
In Chandigarh to share the experience of being a host of stunt-based reality show, the ‘Ishaqzaade’ star insists that he has his own brand of humour and is showing his fun, quirky side on the show which was missing in the earlier seasons.
Capturing moments of sanity and insanity, anxiety and withdrawals, fun and laughter, bruises and breakdowns, the new seasons of KhatronKeKhiladi – KabhiPeedaKabhiKeeda in Argentina began on January 30 with 14 celebrity entertainers and Arjun Kapoor as a host.
Sharing his experience of making a debut on television, the actors says, “Working on a TV show is mentally and physically more difficult than working in a movie. With acting you can understand the process, but when it comes to hosting a TV show, there is no character, no dialogue or scripts. It’s pure improvisation and at the same time you have to connect with the audience.”
This time, a change in the format made the contestants split into two teams, turning the competition into an open battlefield right from the start in the reality show.
Considering that he would be getting into the shoes of ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ hosts Akshay Kumar, Rohit Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, the ‘two states’ actor says he is not replacing anyone but has brought a different flavor to the show being young and an entertainer.
When asked did his gamble to debut on TV pay off, the actor says, “Working on TV shows is best way to judge actor’s ability. We have seen entertainers like Kapil Sharma and Manish Paul who are known for their work. Though I did not make any prior preparations but have put in a lot of energy into the show and hope to connect with large audience.”
Speaking about his experience as a first-time host he say, “While I have hosted live events and award shows in the past, the thrilling ride of being a host for a reality show like KhatronKeKhiladi with 14 gifted participants was a completely different ball game altogether.
He adds, “But at the end every bit of the effort was worth the pain and turmoil...especially because I had the opportunity to add my brand of mischievousness and ‘keeda’ to stunts whenever possible.”
Talking about the challenging stunts performed on the show and his own phobias, Arjun says, “After hosting the show, I realized I don’t have any phobia. Though I was scared of ceiling fans in childhood but as such I had no phobia.”
“Shooting for the show and interacting with the contestants has been a memorable experience for me and I certainly hope that it will translate into a well-packed fun-filled season for the viewers as well,” he signs off.
