Traffic mess outside public schools

PNS

District police have failed to implement section 133 of CrPC in St Joseph's Academy, Convent of Jesus and Mary School and some other public schools, leading to traffic pile-up on the roads outside their premises and resultant inconveniences for the commuters.

St Joseph's Academy officials opened the gate on Subhash Road side, but did not allow the students’parents to park their vehicles inside the campus, triggering in the process traffic congestion on this road. However, on Rajpur Road side, the Academy officials allowing the parents to park their vehicles inside the campus resulted in a comparatively smooth flow of traffic on Rajpur Road on Friday.

Notably, the students’ parents parking their vehicles on the roadside outside the school premises in the state capital and the consequent traffic snarl prompted the district administration to issue notice under section 133 of CrPC to the school authorities, asking them to allow such vehicles to be parked inside the school premises. But as things stand now, it seems the order has failed to have the desired effect in full with the school authorities remaining reluctant to comply with the order.

To ease the traffic flow, a number of sub -inspectors and constables were deployed outside the St Joseph's Academy.  But the parents parking their vehicles on Subhash Road forced the commuters to put up with things for another day. However, no such deployment was visible outside the CJM School and other public schools to regulate the traffic in the city.

Sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar who was deputed outside the St Joseph Academy to regulate the traffic on Subhash Road said the academy official opened the gates (entrance and exit). “But the parents were not allowed to park their vehicles inside the campus.  Things would not change for the better until the school authority complies with the administrative order,” he added.

The situation was the same outside Convent of Jesus and Mary School leading to slowing down of the traffic flow to the inconvenience of the commuters. This school has not complied with the order issued under section 133 of CrPC despite the City Magistrate having severed notice to the school authorities.

The City Magistrate GC Gunwant said that notice has been served to the St Joseph Academy and police officers have been directed to implement the order strictly. Convent of Jesus and Mary School was also served notice under section 133 of CrPC and instructions were issued to the school authority to arrange parking for students’ parents inside the campus, he said.He further said the CJM School official was called in the office and she was directed to comply with the order. A case under sections of IPC will be registered in the local police station in case the school fails to comply with the order, he added.
