The suspended cop of Chandigarh police, Inspector Rajesh Shukla, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), for allegedly accepting bribe from a parking contractor, has written a letter to Inspector General of UT police and claimed that he is a victim of circumstances and also demanded to conduct a high level inquiry in this matter.
Inspector Rajesh Shukla along with two others, Head Constable Mukesh Kumar and Constable Dilbaj Singh, posted with Sector 34 police station, was arrested by CBI on September 3 for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from a parking contractor.
However alleging conspiracy against him, Rajesh Shukla has requested IGP that he is being targeted by some Chandigarh police officials. “I have been framed under false charges of bribery by the CBI. I am being trapped due to the internal factionalism of Chandigarh police. The officials, who are also in the run for the post of Deputy Superintendent, have laid a conspiracy against me as my name was always on the top in the list of seniority to become DSP in the promotions. But the other cops are trying to defame me and hence hatched a conspiracy against me,” said Rajesh Shukla to IGP.
He alleged that the CBI officials had forcefully put the amount of Rs 10,000 in his pockets. But when he opposed, he was allegedly thrashed and misbehaved by the CBI sleuths, added the SHO.
The cop has also claimed that he had not demanded money from anyone and the recorded conversation also does not indicate that he has demanded money. He has also demanded inquiry of CBI inspector Subhash Chandra and his team to get the truth out. “The CCTV footage of September 2 and 3 of the police station should be scanned by the authorities, which will show that there was nothing wrong going on at the police station,” added Rajesh Shukla.
The letter was dispatched to the IGP by the superintendent of Burail Jail. However, when asked about the letter from RP Upadhyay, IGP, he said “I have come to know about this letter but I have not received it yet. As soon as I get the letter, required action will be taken.”
