Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Monday reiterated that his party has always made sacrifices for protecting the state’s interests and now too, the party is committed to safeguard the river waters of the state at any cost.

“The river waters are the lifeline of State’s economic structure and to protect these is the prime duty of every Punjabi,” Sukhbir said while addressing a gathering of MlAs, halqa incharges, district presidents, block presidents, SGPC members and workers of Doaba region in connection with December 8 ‘Paani Bachao-Punjab Bachao’ rally to be held in Moga.

He said that the sordid saga of snatching river waters of Punjab was begun by Indira Gandhi. “Inspite of being a riparian state, the Union governments headed by Congress looted Punjab’s waters and the then Congress leadership of Punjab celebrated this plunder,” he said.

“Not only Congress, but AAP too has adopted double standards on the issue which has exposed the anti-Punjab face of its leadership,” he added.

Exhorting all Punjabis to take part in this rally to save river waters of Punjab, Sukhbir said that every worker of SAD is geared up to make the biggest of sacrifice to save interests of the state on this issue of great significance.

He also disclosed that 500 cars along with the buses from every assembly constituency would depart for the rally.
